Square vs Linear Shower Drains: Which Should You Choose?
Start with your bathroom layout and existing drain connection. A square floor drain may suit a compact point-drain replacement. A linear shower channel may suit a shower being planned around a long drain. Confirm the full dimensions, outlet connection, installation depth and waterproofing details before choosing either design.
LOKY® offers SS304 square floor drains in grating, anti-cockroach and tile-insert designs, alongside Sense linear shower channels in 12-inch, 18-inch and 24-inch lengths. Use this guide to shortlist the right type for your Indian bathroom, then check the selected model with your installer.

Plan the floor and outlet before choosing the cover
A center square drain commonly receives water from a floor sloping toward it from several directions. A linear drain placed along an edge can support a floor falling toward that edge. The actual arrangement depends on drain position, floor build-up and the waterproofing system. Discuss the tile layout and drain position with your installer before tile work begins.
For a replacement, compare the existing installation with the new product’s full assembly. A cover’s visible width or a channel’s advertised length does not establish that its outlet, bowl and installation depth will fit.
A buying checklist for your installer
- Space: confirm the drain opening, available floor depth and proposed position.
- Connection: check the outlet and any required fittings against the existing plumbing.
- Waterproofing and tiles: confirm how the chosen drain integrates with the floor construction and tile layout.
- Capacity: ask for the selected model’s drainage capacity for your shower’s water flow; shape alone does not establish a flow rate.
- Maintenance: make sure the cover and strainer can be accessed for cleaning after installation.
Compare the LOKY® options
Browse LOKY® SS304 floor drains to compare grating, anti-cockroach and tile-insert designs. For an elongated shower drain, explore Sense linear shower channels in PVD Gold, PVD Rose Gold and PVD Black.
CORES anti-cockroach models use an automatic flap that opens with water flow and helps restrict insect entry. Sense combines a curved-slot cover with a matching-finish SS304 anti-cockroach bowl. Check each listing’s inclusions rather than assuming every square drain or linear channel has the same components.
Common questions
Is a linear drain always better than a square drain?
There is no single best choice for every bathroom. Select the design that fits the floor layout, outlet, installation depth and maintenance needs. Compare the full product specification and installed cost, not just the shape of the cover.
Can I replace a square drain with a linear channel?
It is not automatically a like-for-like replacement. Ask your installer to review the floor, outlet position and waterproofing details before ordering. A change of drain layout may involve plumbing or floor work as well as the new product.
How do I care for a LOKY® drain?
Remove collected hair and debris regularly, keep accessible strainer and flap areas clear, and follow the selected model’s care instructions. Sense channels include a removal pin for lifting the cover and accessing the hair strainer.
